He didn't start working on building McDonald's until he was in his mid-50s (in the mid 1950s). Before that, he honed his salesman skills selling paper cups, mixers (like Waring Blenders), real estate and other products. During that entire time he kept his eyes open... He made contacts, and he developed good habits of taking action. Then, after seeing the McDonald brothers in California and observing how they became successful selling 15 cent hamburgers to large happy crowds he took their success formula and expanded it and after a lot of smart and hard work created a booming new business. Ray Kroc is one of my heros.
